The CBAB and Brazilian breeders mourn the passing of Professor Roland Vencovsky, at the Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz” (ESALQ), of the University of São Paulo.

Recognized as the scientist who introduced quantitative genetics in Brazil, Prof. Vencovsky opened a school to genetic breeding dictated by the predictability of numbers.

The CBAB points out that on 17 June the ESALQ had already lost another great master, Professor Paulo Yoshio Kageyama. Prof. Kageyama was advised by Prof. Vencovsky in their master’s and doctoral courses.

The memory of these two great masters will be engraved in the minds of their disciples. Fulfills them, included the Editor-in-Chief of CBAB, who was advised by Prof. Kageyama and student/admirer of Prof. Vencovsky, disseminate the scientific knowledge and of life legate by two masters. Our most sincere condolences to their families.
